A second full day gives more time for wildlife movement, photography and the park's remote landscapes.
DAY 04Katavi Wilderness
Use the day for a deeper safari experience, revisiting productive areas or exploring a different part of the park.
DAY 05Katavi → Mahale
Travel onward by the confirmed air and boat connections. Arrive around Mahale and settle into the forest-and-lake environment.
DAY 06Chimpanzee Trek
Take a guided forest trek in search of habituated chimpanzees. The route and duration depend on the community's location and forest conditions.
DAY 07Forest & Chimpanzees
A second opportunity for chimpanzee trekking or a complementary forest experience, depending on permits and the confirmed camp programme.
DAY 08Lake Tanganyika
Slow the pace with a lake-focused day. Swimming, boating or kayaking may be available according to conditions and the selected camp.
DAY 09Final Mahale Day
Choose between another forest experience, time by the lake or a relaxed final day in the Mahale landscape.
DAY 10Mahale → Gateway
Enjoy a final morning before your onward flight or boat connection, with Zanzibar possible as a separate extension.

Are chimpanzee sightings guaranteed?+
No. Chimpanzees are wild animals and their location changes. Guided treks maximise the opportunity but cannot guarantee a sighting.
Can children join chimpanzee treks?+
Age requirements and trekking suitability depend on the park and operator rules, so these should be confirmed before booking.
Can we focus more on Katavi?+
Yes. The ten-day route can be rebalanced around wildlife priorities.
