Serengeti & Ngorongoro.
A focused Northern Tanzania safari pairing the endless Serengeti plains with the volcanic drama of Ngorongoro — designed for travellers who want fewer stops, deeper wildlife time and a journey with real rhythm.
Two icons. One focused safari.
This is the route for travellers who would rather spend meaningful time in two extraordinary ecosystems than rush through a long list of parks. Ngorongoro brings the crater and highlands; Serengeti opens into a much larger world of plains, predators and seasonal wildlife movement.
Five days can create a concentrated safari. Six or seven days allow a slower rhythm. Eight days give you room for multiple Serengeti nights, longer game drives and a more immersive wilderness experience.
Arusha → Ngorongoro → Serengeti → Arusha.
The route is deliberately focused. Depending on your dates, the journey can add an extra Serengeti night, a longer Ngorongoro stay or a flight connection to maximize time in the wilderness.
From volcanic highlands to endless plains.
The strength of this safari is contrast. Ngorongoro gives you a dramatic concentrated wildlife landscape; Serengeti gives you scale, space and the freedom to follow wildlife across a much larger ecosystem.
Ngorongoro Highlands
Cooler highland scenery, volcanic landscapes and the gateway into the crater and Serengeti.
Ngorongoro Crater
A dramatic enclosed landscape where grassland, woodland and wetlands create concentrated wildlife viewing.
Central Serengeti
Open plains, kopjes and strong resident wildlife viewing make this a natural heart of the safari.
Greater Serengeti
Extend deeper into the ecosystem when the season and route call for more time beyond the central plains.
The 8-day master itinerary.
Use this as the complete version. A 5-, 6- or 7-day safari can be created by removing selected nights while keeping the core experience: Ngorongoro followed by meaningful time in Serengeti.
01Arusha → Karatu / Ngorongoro Highlands
Leave Arusha and travel toward the Ngorongoro highlands. The landscape gradually changes from the busy gateway around Arusha to cultivated highland country and the dramatic escarpment landscapes surrounding the conservation area.
Keep the afternoon relaxed and prepare for the crater and Serengeti chapters ahead.
02Ngorongoro Crater — Full Wildlife Day
Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for an extended wildlife experience. The crater floor brings together open grassland, woodland and wetland habitats beneath the surrounding volcanic walls.
Spend the day observing wildlife at a measured pace before returning to the highlands for the evening.
03Ngorongoro Highlands → Serengeti
Leave the highlands and enter Serengeti. The journey itself is part of the experience as volcanic country gives way to open plains and the horizon expands dramatically.
Once inside the park, the road becomes a game drive. Stop for wildlife and landscape encounters before reaching your camp.
04Serengeti — Full Wildlife Day
Leave early and spend the day deep in Serengeti. Follow tracks, predator activity, kopjes, water and the movement of wildlife rather than following a rigid checklist.
The day can be shaped around your priorities: big cats, photography, migration activity, landscapes or simply long uninterrupted time in the field.
05Serengeti — A Second Day in the Wild
Use a second full day to go deeper into the Serengeti rather than spending the morning on another long transfer. Your guide can adjust the route around current wildlife activity and the season.
This is the day to slow down: follow a pride, wait for changing light, explore quieter plains or spend more time around the landscapes you connected with the previous day.
06Serengeti — Migration, Predators & Open Plains
Continue exploring the Serengeti with a full day designed around the current story of the ecosystem. Depending on the season, that may mean following the migration or concentrating on resident wildlife and predator country.
Keep the route flexible and let the guide respond to what is actually happening in the landscape.
07Serengeti → Ngorongoro / Karatu
Take a final morning game drive before beginning the return journey toward the Ngorongoro highlands. The transfer remains part of the safari, with opportunities to stop when wildlife appears.
Reach Karatu or the surrounding highlands and enjoy a quieter evening after several days on the plains.
08Ngorongoro Highlands → Arusha
After breakfast, begin the final journey toward Arusha. Depending on your onward plans, include a relaxed lunch or final stop before reaching the city.
End the Serengeti & Ngorongoro journey here, or continue with Kilimanjaro, another safari region or Zanzibar.
From the crater to the endless plains.
Ngorongoro and Serengeti work beautifully together because the journey changes character without losing its wildlife focus. One day can place you beneath volcanic walls; the next can open into a horizon that seems to have no end.
Make the two destinations feel completely yours.
Extended Game Drives
Stay in the field longer when wildlife activity is worth following.
Balloon Safari
Experience the Serengeti from above at sunrise, subject to availability and conditions.
Walking Safari
Explore the landscape on foot where permitted and with the required professional guidance.
Bush Dining
Turn a remote wilderness location into part of the memory of the day.
Stay where the story is.
A focused safari allows the accommodation to work with the route. Choose from refined highland lodges, crater-area properties and Serengeti tented camps, with the final combination based on season, availability and your preferred level of comfort.
Five days or eight? The difference is depth.
Focused & direct.
Concentrate on Ngorongoro and a strong Serengeti chapter without adding extra stops.
Classic balance.
Give the crater its time and allow more than one meaningful Serengeti wildlife day.
More breathing room.
Slow the pace, add another Serengeti night and create more flexibility around wildlife.
Deep safari.
Ideal for travellers who want several Serengeti nights and less time spent simply relocating.
Shape the route.
Wildlife, photography, romance, family travel or private luxury can change the emphasis.

Before you follow the road into Serengeti.
Is five days enough for Serengeti and Ngorongoro?
Yes. A five-day version can be designed as a focused journey with Ngorongoro followed by a concentrated Serengeti stay. Longer versions provide more flexibility and deeper wildlife time.
How many nights should I spend in Serengeti?
That depends on your travel dates and priorities. For travellers focused on wildlife, photography or the migration, additional Serengeti nights generally create more flexibility than adding many short stops.
Can I visit Ngorongoro Crater and still have a full Serengeti experience?
Yes. The route is specifically designed to give both destinations meaningful time, with the number of Serengeti nights adjusted according to the total trip length.
Can the Serengeti area change according to the season?
Yes. The most relevant sector can change through the year, so the final route should be matched to your travel dates and current wildlife movement rather than treating one location as guaranteed.
Can I add Zanzibar after the safari?
Yes. Zanzibar can be added after the safari as a separate beach and Indian Ocean chapter.
Can this be a luxury safari?
Yes. Accommodation, private-use options, selected flights and tailored experiences can be incorporated according to availability and the final travel plan.
